Armrest plastic removal

I have a 2008 Silverado with a torn armrest cover. It is the center console armrest without the lid, it has the cupholder and storage bin all in one plastic piece. My kids bought me a replacement cover off of one of the shopping sights and I have looked at videos on how to change this out. The few videos I have seen suggest either cutting the foam to get to the clips on the bottom or prying the plastic until it comes lose, which results in breaking a few of the pins/clips that hold it together. Is there a way to separate the plastic without damaging them to change this cover?

Not familiar with the specific application, but probably not. It’s old. The plastic clip stuff is cheap and made for easy assy, but not dis-assy, especially at this age.

Go low and slow. Pry up all around gently and “coax” it.

Presumably the clips aren’t integral to the new part. If they’re not built in to the lower part of the armrest, then a body shop is a good place to look for replacement clips. But, in the end, if it’s not the type with the lid, then just glue the new one down with something like a silicone adhesive.
