Ambient Air Temperature Sensor

I have a 1993 ford taurus 3.8L V6 automatic GL. Can you tell me what the purpose of the “ambient air temperature sensor” is and can it make your car stall during “hot and humid” driving conditions? What is the connection between this sensor and your “air conditiong” system?

For GM vehicles there is a ambient air temp sensor. Its pourpose was just to tell people the outside air temp display was in a overhead console unit included a electronic compass sensor was attached to the core support. It let people tell if icing conditions were present some people tried to predict the weather with it. This accessory device had nothing to do with the operation of the car.No connection with AC. Now the vehicles did have a sensor inside the car that fed info to AC controler. I would not be suprised if there was a sensor that did tell the engine management computer what temp the intake air was,two seperate systems
