Greetings all,
I have an issue regarding an Air Bag (SRS) light on my 1996 GMC Yukon.
Recently, I replaced a steering box in this vehicle. After the job was done, I noticed the “AIR BAG” light stayed on continuously. Is this just a coincidence?

When replacing the steering gear, was the steering wheel locked in place?

I agree with @Tester . . . you most likely destroyed the clock spring when replacing that steering gear box.
If you like, I could explain the hows and whys, but rest assured, it is a rather common mistake.
Great… How do I go about resolving this issue? I kind of like the idea of a functioning SRS-not to mention it needs to pass vehicle inspection soon.
Here’s what the clock spring looks like and how to replace it. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=886035&cc=1166431
