Adjust 1996 Honda CR-V Windshield Wipers

How do you adjust the windshield wipers of a 1996 Honda CR-V to keep them from hitting the edge of the windshield before returning for the next wipe. They need to stop before hitting the edge of the windshield. It makes an annoying slapping sound each time it reaches the windshield edge.

My bad - 1998 Honda CR-V not 1996

The first thing to check is to make sure the nut that holds the wiper arm to the shaft isn’t loose. Where the wiper pivots there should be a cover that flips open that allows access to this nut. If the nut is tight, then problem might be that the splines in the wiper arm are beginning to strip out, which means replacing the wiper arm. If the splines on the wiper arm aren’t stripping out, then this means the wiper system linkage needs to be looked at.
