Acceleration problem 04 Dodge Neon

I have a 2004 Dodge Neon that I have owned for 2 years now. For the last 3 months, I have occasionally experienced a problem when accelerating from lower speed to higher speed (never from a stop). It has happened when entering highways, or just when completing a turn.

What happens: when I depress the gas pedal, it does nothing. It doesn’t rev, accelerate, or anything. I back off and try again lightly. After 2-4 tries, it eventually works like normal.

This initially occurred about once a week. I tried some fuel cleaner, thinking it was a fuel issue (the only plausible recommendation I have received). It now happens about once a day.

I took it into the shop and he was unable to duplicate the problem after driving it on 4 separate occasions in variable weather/road conditions.

Any thoughts?

Oh, in addition, in the recent occurrences of this problem, it has felt like it was going to stall but never actually has.

Check engine light on?
