ABS light on instrument on

On -1999 Ford Ranger, my ABS light comes on after I start the engine and stays on. My speedometer will not register any speed until I get up to about 30 – 35 miles an hour, my transmission shifts very hard, and my overdrive off light comes on. These symptoms appeared all at once yesterday and I’m more little confused. The local shop manuals don’t tell me much. I would greatly appreciate suggestions.

I would say that all of these symptoms point toward one thing, namely a bad Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). Replace the VSS and all of those problems will probably go away.

Thank you for your reply and suggestion. I will try the vehicle speed sensor and let you know what happens.
Thanks again,
Bill
