'98 Oldsmobile Intrique Criuse Control Problem

My '98 Olds Intrique (3.8 litre engine) cruise control works fine if I connect it before the engine fully warms up. If it then disconnects when I hit the brake pedal, it will still reconnect when I press RESUME. However, if I park and turn off the ignition switch, the cruise control will not connect again until after the engine has completely cooled down. All dash lights and switches and steering wheel buttons appear to operate normally.
