4 Dead Batteries in 1 year

I have a 2002 Ford Escort ZX2 that is on its 4th battery since last January. The original battery (that lasted several years) and the alternator were replaced 1 year ago. Since then my car won’t start every few months and inevitably the battery needs replacement. What could be the possible causes for this?

Batteries will die early because of a few reasons:

  1. Excessive heat.

  2. Repeated discharge. Batteries should be used to start the car, then restarted. If you are a klutz and leave your lights on a lot (or if your car has a current draw), your battery will “die” quickly.

Most other things (i.e. punctures) would be obvious to whoever changes the battery, and they’d have told you about it.

Have the alternator checked. It is more than a coincidence that the batteries started dying after it was replaced.
