What impressed me first was the color, as I don’t usually like blue cars but this one was the first that made me change that. Very striking design with the V shape, and a lot of space as well (guess that would make a nice family car).
I’ve seen some videos from other channels and they said this car has improved a lot in 2024. Any owners here?
In this video there seems to be a lot of color grading going on, but overall the car still looks pretty good.
Every review of the first VinFast available in the US was bad. Very bad. The car was judged to be completely awful.
A snippet from the review of this 2024 model from Car and Driver is below.
Unfortunately, VinFast didn’t make any other changes to the VF8, meaning it still suffers from the same lackluster driving dynamics and disappointing fit and finish.
If you want an EV, I’d suggest looking at any other model besides VinFast. For $50,000, you can do much better.
+1
There are EVs that are much better than the VinFast, namely… almost every other EV.
The other EV that should definitely be avoided is the Fisker Ocean.
VinFast appears to have fixed some of the complaints about the 2023 VF 8 but not everything. You’re still dealing with a spotty dealer/support network with the exception of California. Fisker went bankrupt and I’ve only seen one Ocean here even with the nearest dealer being in CA.
All EV makers have had some sort of teething problems in the first year but usually those issues don’t crop up during a launch event for the media.
The Tesla Model Y RWD long range has an MSRP of $31,490 and the AWD version MRSP starts at $34,490. That price includes the federal tax credit of $7500. These SUVs have been around for years and are built in thenUSA, including the batteries if US content means anything to you. The estimated range is 320 mi for 2WD and 308 mi for AWD. According to fueleconomy.gov 2023 was the last year for the VF8. Vinfast released the VF9 for MY2024.
No, it doesn’t. At least based on this comment in Car and Driver that I posted…
And let’s compare pricing as @jtsanders points out…
Why would you buy something more expensive with a very limited (and poor) history instead of a Tesla Model Y? I’m not a Tesla fanboy so I have no bias about this. It is clearly a better deal.
I might consider a VinFast…after 5 years of quality car sales in the US, served by a stable, expanding dealer network. Not that I think there’s much chance of that happening.
