I wouldn’t worry about reliability as long as the SUV has been well maintained. The traditional Japanese manufacturers forced the other carmakers to improve reliability. Annual repair costs among most car builders are a lot closer than they used to be. Actually maintenance costs are much higher than repair costs. Also, don’t buy anything with body rust. It could be blooming from the inside of the body panel and that is expensive to repair. If you know someone that knows cars, take them with you to look the SUV over.
