2017 Chevrolet Malibu - Trouble and help

I had received a couple notices from ONSTAR that my engine and transmission needed to be serviced, this was in Jan2020 called dealer let them know, was told they’d put me in system and let me know when I could bring my 2017 mailbu in, never happened. Got another notice from ONSTAR in Mar2020 called dealer again, was told I was already in system for but would updated account noting same notice appeared again. Now its Aug2020 and car is now having problems with “SHIFTING IN PARK” and it also reading “STEERING ASSITANCE REDUCED, DRIVE WITH CARE” called dealer on this issue 8-18-20, he quotes me a $565.00 ticket plus tax, when I feel like if they would have addressed this issue in JAN2020 when it first started than I wouldn’t be having this issue today. which is 7mos later. Mind you when I first notified my dealer in JAN2020 is was still under my “BUMPER TO BUMPER” warranty which is now EXPIRED… Highly dissatisfied with GM and Chevy at this point

I think if you really do your homework, that Onstar and the dealer should be able to document the dates related to the failures. Don’t take NO for an answer. Just keep going up higher and higher on the ladder until you get the right answer. Good luck!

Does this mean that a fault was detected by the engine computer or was this a maintenance reminder?

If it was an engine fault, is it related to the problem you have now, that appears to be a steering problem?

enter your car’s VIN number here to check for recalls:

there were some years of Malibu that had the electric steering assist recalled. See if yours is one. If so, repair should be free.

I’m not quite sure I understand. OnStar will give you monthly notices of maintenance that needs to be done so you simply call whoever and make an appointment. I can’t say if they send separate emails if a service code is detected but same thing, you call the dealer and make an appointment. Once you make the appointment for the issue, that should be documentation of the problem. Not sure what “putting you in the system” means.
