My car suddenly started losing power getting on the freeway, or even picking up speed. This started a week after getting a tuneup. What could be the problem? Running pretty bad.
The engine might be misfiring. Quite a few potential causes, usual causes are either ignition system or fuel system. The first priority is a scan tool test for diagnostic codes stored in the powertrain computer memory, current and pending, especially those related to misfires. Is the check engine light on?
Welcome to the forum…
DO you have a check engine light (CEL) on?? If so have you pulled the codes and what are they??
What was the reason for the “tune-up”?? Maintenance or running issue??
When it looses power, the RPM’s are dropping and NOT going up right??
What all did they replace during the “tune-up”??
My first move would be to schedule an appointment with the shop that did the “Tune up.” Most mechanics would legitimately want to help if the car ran poorly right after they worked on it.
Note that if your check-engine light starts flashing, you need to stop driving in order to avoid damaging anything.
Can you please tell us what was done?
Plugs and coils?
Have you verified everything’s properly connected?
Tuneup is an obsolete term. People who use it are likely to be taking advantage of someone, and/or are someone who is being taken advantage of.
Was there a malfunction that led to this recent work being done?
Are the maintenance suggestions in the owners manual being followed?
My guess is that a new set of spark plugs were put in as part of a “tune up”. If the new plugs are not OEM then I would swap them out for OEM plugs.
