For about 3 weeks my 2016 Honda Accord EX-L Sedan has had a static noise coming from the passenger side sounding like it is coming from the dash of glove box area. The noise happens when I reach around 60mph and increases in volume as I increase speed. The noise will stop when I reach lower speeds. It is usually triggered by bluetooth connection to music or radio every time it is connected. It has also been triggered when not connected to anything and stereo is off.
I can confirm it is not speakers as I have disconnected the speakers in the passenger side. I have replaced the cabin filter. The noise does appear to be static. I have attached video for the audio but may be hard to differentiate the noise of road to static.
I’d have the front wheel bearings check.
If it’s loud enough see if you can post some audio recording.
For a hoot, pull your fuse for the stereo / radio head unit temporarily and see what happens.
That’s a real puzzle. hmmm … are there any other sound-producing gadgets located in that area besides the stereo speakers? Like a cell-phone in the glove box? Bluetooth/Wifi speaker?
Faulty wheel bearings usually make a roaring sound, louder the faster you go. I wouldn’t say that sound is like “static”. The HVAC fan in the dash area can have a sort of static-like sound though, esp if the blades are hitting leaf-debris.
Unfortunately the website does not allow new users to upload video/audio. On my way home from work I removed the Audio fuse and the same results happened. The static begins at at approximately 65 and increases as speed increases. I can e-mail the file
Unplug the Active Noise Cancellation module to see if the noise stops. There are videos showing the procedure.
I have unplugged and the noise is still the same.
If you can edit that video down to the exact spot of the sound that might help.
I heard just a few moments, not of static, but of more a “flap flap flap” - sounded like a loose splash shield under the car.
I don’t know what you are listening to, at 0:57 it sounded like the pavement type changed, then 1:07 back to normal.
I could not here the exact noise you were talking about but, I found the following that you can try from someone that had a similar noise. here is what he posted…
I finally figured it out. So silly. The windshield trim on the outside A pillar is the culprit. Looking at it it looks just fine. But when you drive, the wind is pushing the thin edge of the plastic strip out and when you slow down, there is not enough wind to pull it out so it goes right back to where is belongs so you never see it. Take your finger nail and follow the outside edge of the windshield molding “rubber” and gently pull away from the car. Just the edge of that “gasket” pulls away. Look to see if you notice very subtle scratches on the painted surface of the A pillar along that molding. That’ll show exactly where it is pullout out while driving. If you aren’t sure what I’m trying to describe, just take a piece of tape the length of the A pillar and tape it from top to bottom covering the molding all the way down and test drive. I’ll bet the sound stops. Fixed mine after months of pulling what little hair I have out. Good luck!
also, the TBS…
