The check Airbag idiot light came on, once on Saturday, but since then that day, it has been coming on 20 to 40 times per hour.
Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Could be a bad clock spring. You don’t see them fail all that often these days, but in the 90’s and early 00’s it was fairly common. And unless your car has an extended warranty, it’s probably not going to be covered. You model wasn’t on the list of cars involved in the Takata recall, it case you were wondering.
