Our BMW i3 rEX caught fire while I was driving.

The fire started at the rear left side of the car.

In light of that recall, I have to wonder whether the OP bought this vehicle as a “used” car. If so, it’s possible that the original owner ignored the recall notice that was sent to him/her. For reasons that I will probably never understand, many people ignore recall notices from the vehicle manufacturer.

Some interesting statistics regarding recall notices that are ignored:

Could be cause they took their vehicle in for an air bag recall and the mechanic F’d something up and as soon as you pick the vehicle up you notice that the trac and stability lights are on and you walk straight back into the dealer and they blow you off like you are a nobody and you leave cause you are about to slam the idiots face into his desk, when they either left something loose/unplugged or pinched a wire during the recall because you now have no communication with the steering angle module, so the next part of it you say screw it and have been ignoring it ever sense…

Less than average. So NOT so good.

Posting your personal information isn’t a good idea, imo

Have you posted this on BMW i3 forums? Much more likely to find a fellow owner there.

Car owners may be reluctant to visit a dealership b/c of prior negative experiences.

That would be the automotive equivalent of ignoring one’s dental health because of problems with one dentist. I recently changed dentists because of a negative experience, but I suppose that I could have just vowed to never again visit a dentist.
