My car intermitenly does not start right away. Battery,Alternator,check out okay.Two mechanics said I needed a new gas cap. so I replaced this and my car is still doing this. What is wrong? Can you help?
Does not start has two meanings.
You turn the key and nothing happens, or you turn the key, the engine cranks over but doesn’t start.

I will drive the car park it, run errands come back turn ignition. No sound, nothing…then I keep trying and it starts again after several attempts.

The next time the car won’t start, with the dash lights on, step on the brake pedal and shift the transmission into neutral and then try starting the car.
If the car starts, it points to a problem with the transmission range switch.
