2013 Dodge Dart - Is it in park?

shifting lever moves but the car dont, stays in park i think

Sounds like a typical shift linkage bushing issue…

When this happens, are you able to move the car by pushing it? It usually wouldn’t move by pushing if the auto-trans is still in Park. If you are able to push it along, sorry to say but you may have a slipping transmission. Does this happen more on cold mornings, then it begins to work correctly as the car warms up?

@Dave30, please excuse the above post…
If the gear shifter now moves a little smother/easier (less resistance), it is your more than likely your shift cable bushing… as already mentioned…

If the vehicle moves in park, then either it is NOT in park, or the parking pawl mechanism broke… as long as the rest of the driveline is intact…

Again, if the vehicle moves along by pushing it with the transmission in park, then the parking pawl is damaged or not engaged, or there is a drive line failure, nothing to do with the transmission slipping…

This is a VERY common issue with the plastic/neoprene bushing breaking on the Darts, it is a fairly common problem on many different transmissions and transaxles (like the OP’s) designs where a cable is used to shift the gears… Even see it on some double cabled manual shifted transaxles…

And if the transmission is not in park or neutral, it will not start, it’s a safety thing… (at least on a cable shifted transmission)…

If the car fails to proceed when shifting from P to D, couldn’t that be a slipping transmission? My truck had that exact symptom, definitely caused by a slipping auto trans. OP is not sure whether their trans is in P or D, as they state
