2013 Chevrolet Equinox shuts off when coming to a stop

car shuts off when coming to stop

To be clear, your vehicle may be equipped with “autostop,” which shuts off the engine when you stop to save gas. You’re not talking about that, right? If the vehicle is just plain dying the check engine light should be coming on. Take it to an auto parts store or shop and have the code read. One possibility is a bad idle air control valve. Or the torque converter lockup in your transmission could be acting up. A good independent mechanic can tell you for sure.

Miles? Is it equipped with the 4 cyl or 6 cyl engine? The 2.4L model has an ECO mode that drops the idle RPM and with the AC running may cause it to stall. Leave the ECO mode off, the drop in mpg is minor and the driveability will improve. The increase in idle RPM may help with the stalling.

Do you have a check engine light (CEL)? Also since it’s an Equinox check the oil level on a regular basis.

The engine in your vehicle doesn’t have an IAC valve.

Instead, the engine idle is controlled by the electronic throttle body.

A dirty electronic throttle throttle body can cause the engine to stall when coming to a stop.

Have someone try cleaning the electronic throttle body.
