2013 BMW 328 - Paint issue

Front and back bumper has severely peeled and in desperate need of repair, color is Melbourne Red. The color on the body on the car however is good.
A guy at a repair shop told me about 2013 red European cars with the same issues, I was able to locate the same with the Mercedes vehicles and a subsequent class action lawsuit. I’m wondering if there’s a similar class action for BMW? I’d like some help$ in paying for a paint job, which won’t be cheap. Any info is appreciated, thx!

On a 12 year old car, good luck

You can Google looking for a class action suit, but those rarely get the individual owners much in the way of compensation.
Many vehicles have paint problems, especially older cars like yours, horizontal surfaces are more common.
Have the bumper covers repainted if you wish, save all the paper work, get good “before” pictures. Maybe if there is a successful class action, you might get a few dollars back.

If you’ll allow the repair shop a certain amount of color mismatch, with no guarantees how long the color match they do achieve it holds, just repainting the bumpers probably isn’t a budget buster. If you want the entire car repainted to look like it just came from the showroom, then that will be quite expensive. No idea whether the legal-system approach would work. Google will usually find class-actions. Have you tried that? Frustrating problem, but suggest to put things in perspective. Best of luck.

This is when a lot of European manufacturers were changing to waterborne paints due to environmental law changes, some light metallic colours came from the factory looking like tie dye in the wrong light🤷‍♂️

+1
I can’t find any Class Action Lawsuits relating to BMW paint, but–even if there was one–I tend to doubt if a 12 year old vehicle would qualify.

Find a 3 series forum and check around there, they’d probably have more information.

Did you actually get a price yet? I wouldn’t think the bumpers alone would be that expensive, to be honest.

When I had exactly the same problem on a red 2004 BMW, I found a guy who specialized in painting bumpers for car dealers. It was the same arrangement as the paintless dent repair guy. To make a living, he works only at dealers and goes only when there are several cars to do. I got permission from the local BMW dealer to park my car in their back lot the day the bumper painter was going to be there and I got my rear bumper done for about $200 as I recall. Looked pretty good for as long as I owned that car (about six years).
