2011 Land Rover LR2 - dealer gouging us?

Looking for advise. Three years ago we purchased a 2011 Land Rover LR2 with 40,000. We had added another 40 in the last three years. I took my car to the dealer to install a new resonator (rear muffler). Upon completion I was informed that the right front tie rod was very loose and needed replacement, cost to repair $635. My husband hopped on Google and told me they should cost under $300. My question, is the Dealer way out of line? Should I have them do the work or find a more reasonable shop. By the way, replacement of the resonator was $945.20. I Iove the vehicle especially for driving in our snow belt.
Is the dealer gouging me?

I don’t know where you live so I can’t say whether you are being gouged or not. Research on-line MUST include location. Tie rods in Los Angeles will be more expensive than Salinas Kansas.

Any repair that doesn’t leave the car needing a tow can be taken to other shops for an estimate. A phone works pretty well here, too. Like any other service - your price may vary.
