Simple answer is NO ! That is a out dated idea . If you are in the US most Auto Zone stores can test your alternator and battery for free . Of course your replies will be better if you explain why you are asking the question.
My understanding is that that can cause voltage spikes that can damage today’s electronic equipment. As already mentioned, a proper charging system test is recommended instead.
