my turn signal makes all kinds of clicking noises when you us turn signal but most of the time when you do not use, can get it to stop by playing with the turn signal handle but today it would not stop and then we had a lot of smoke coming from the steering column. now car is parked and have no idea what to do.

I suggest the first thing you do should be to disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery, before the entire car goes up in smoke. Then get it towed to a qualified shop, and tell them what happened. don’t try to drive it.
