2010 Ford Expedition - Dash light question

The display on the dash of our Ford that shows the mileage, temperature and direction in daylight start to fade after about one minute to the point where you can no longer read the display. If you cover up the light sense on the dash hoping it will turn the display back on just turns the display off.
I have taken it back to Ford but they said that the way it is., is this true?

Read your owner manual.Could be some kind of time delay built-in to the screen to prevent the light to be on all the time.
