2010 Chevy Equinox P0011 on hard acceleration

A little background:

  • 2010 Equinox, 2.4L 4 cyl
  • 98000 miles
  • Live/drive at 6000 foot elevation
  • Synthetic oil

I get the P0011 camshaft positioner code only when I accelerate hard. For example, leaving my driveway is a 55 MPH road, and it is steeply uphill. If a car is coming, I need to hit the accelerator hard. This sometimes causes the P0011 code. It can be cleared, and will not immediately return.

Suggestions ?

When was the last time the oil/filer were changed?

Oil changed about 2000 miles ago.

My 2013 Equinox 2.4 had the same code at ~97k miles. I replaced the intake and exhaust VVT solenoids and cleared the code. My daughter’s 2010 Cobalt threw a related code (P0014) recently, I removed and cleaned both solenoids and the code has not reappeared. The solenoids are easy to replace on the Equinox.

I concur, most likely problematic VVT selenoid(s). Make sure to continue to change the oil/filter frequently, as those parts are very sensitive to oil level and quality.
