It randomly dies at any given time while driving it, and when I started, it has a grinding noise
My guess, the two symptoms are not related. But both need to be fixed asap of course.
I presume you mean the engine stops running for no apparent reason. The first step towards a solution is for your shop to determine if the problem is no-fuel, or no-spark. It is almost certainly one of the two. Consider letting your shop keep the vehicle, w/one of the tech staff using it as their daily driver. They’ll be able to figure out which of the two is causing the engine to stop running.
I presume you’re certain the tank has plenty of gasoline when this happens. Is there any indication the dashboard fuel gauge is inaccurate?
Have you tried pulling the codes?? Is the check engine light on?
Sounds like a failing crank sensor, and they don’t always set a code…
If the grinding noise only happens while starting the engine and not once started for a few seconds, could be a bad starter and or flywheel/flex plate…
Without being able to hear the noise and a better description of the noise and when it is happening, it will be hard to pin point over the web…
We can help you understand what it might be, and help you understand what the repair shop’s diagnosis tells you. Don’t repeat anything you read here to the shop.
This sounds like it should be fairly easy to duplicate and diagnose
I don’t think there is any need for any of “the tech staff using it as their daily driver.”
