2008 Ford F250 exhaust filter warning

I have a reading on my gauges that reads “cleaning exhaust filter”. What does this mean for a 6.2 liter diesel engine? If I put the truck in park, the gauge reads “keep driving to clean filter”. Do I have to worry about something going bad if I do not keep driving after I arrive where I want to go? The Ford dealer says not to worry, it is something with the emissions. Thanks

Ford diesels have a particulate trap (or filter) in the exhaust system that occasionally needs to be cleaned by burning off the particulates. The truck knows when that needs to happen and will clean the filter itself with your help. And yes, it IS in the emissions system.

Pay attention to those messages and do what they say and your truck will live a longer, happier, cleaner life.
