My 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, with 76K miles (silver), started making a whinning sound at 75K when accelerating and making turns. The noise reduces when vehicle warms-up and sounds like it comes from behind dash. Is it already the timing chain at 76K?
Many power steering pumps will whine. It, usually, doesn’t mean a thing. A new one may whine, also. The power steering pump is on the engine, as is the timing chain (if it has one). A timing chain doesn’t whine; but, it’s not a time-change item, anyway. Have a mechanic listen to it.
Thanks, I’ll have it checked out.
