I have a loose transmission mount, just one, left side, front of engine compartment. I was quoted $239.06 to fix it. I want to make certain this is something that actually needs fixed, what can happen if I do not (I was told my by former mechanic before we moved out of state to wait until it breaks then fix it) and is this quote too high?
Thanks so much!
Oh I forgot to add, they want to replace it, can’t they just tighten it for a lot less? Or is it better to replace?
Loose is a misnomer when referring to engine or transmission mounts. They are usually constructed of bonded rubber so when it’s loose it needs to be replaced. They cost about $30-$60 and if you are mechanically inclined this might be a good DIY project with the proper tools and repair manual.
