I have a 2004 Buick Rainier CXL 5.8L v8 awd that has around 125,000 miles on it and is starting to have some issues. The most recent issue is the driver’s seat will not go forward and the seat position recall buttons #1 & #2 aren’t working. The radio controls on the stereo itself stopped working also. The only way I can listen to the radio or change the volume is by using the controls on the steering wheel. Checked fuses and there are none that have blown. Any suggestions on what to try next? Thank you for your advice and help.
It’s entirely possible that all of those problems are the result of a failing BCM.
That module controls a wide variety of non-engine-related electrical functions.

I believe you meant 5.3L V8…
Welcome to the forum and sorry you are having the issue..
Problems with the BCM are certainly a possibility. You will want to get access to a scanner that can read GM body codes. Proceeding without checking for error codes is shooting in the dark.
Here’s one shot in the dark that’s free and easy however. Battery places and big box auto parts stores will check your battery and charging system for free. It’s unlikely that a weak battery would cause these symptoms and these alone, but there’s no harm in having it checked.
It is rather common for radio switches/volume control switches to fail with old age; I have replaced several radios for that problem.
The power seat problem can be caused by a power switch failure, seat control module failure or seat adjuster motor failure. It shouldn’t take a technician more than one hour to diagnose however the repair could cost $500 to $2,000.
If you push a button and the thing does not work, I’d blame button first for wear. Not the electrical device it’s plugged into. Worn contacts.
That seems to happen to 20yo vehicles… If you don’t fix them as soon as they go out, then they will start adding up, and sometimes one can/will affect the other, but in your case, it just sounds like normal wear and tear, I think Mr Nevada nailed it…
I purchased the vehicle from a private party and I haven’t had it that long. The people I purchased it from may have driven it off road but I have only driven on paved roads and highways. I have taken care of it the best I possibly can, because I don’t need or want it to quit on me. I didn’t know the people I bought it from so I have no idea how they treated it.
I dont think that anyone is implying mistreatment by the previous owners. After 21 years, components can simply wear-out.
+1
Anything the OP fixes is maintenance, not repairs due to the age.
