I have a 2004 4runner with 60,000 miles on it. Recently the back wheel has been chirping when I am driving. It chirps when the brake is not pushed. When I press on the brakes to stop the chirp turns into a high squeal. We just had new brake pads put on the rear drivers side wheel because it was making noises and the rotors were also turned. The chirping may be coming from the passenger side. Any ideas?
The last time I heard that sound it was my rear differential bearings (Positraction), and the repair cost $450.
I suggest you have this checked out right away by a competent mechjanic, since the whole differential destroying itself will se you back at least $2500.
