The “Service Engine Soon” light goes on and the car starts dinging very insistently. The dealership can’t find any problem and says it can’t even duplicate the situation. Any thoughts?
There must be codes showing. Can you post them here?
What does "car starts dinging’ mean?
car starts dinging? please explain
Our Caravan will sound the general warning beeps inside the car (for headlights on, seatbelt, etc) if the computer senses some condition. It will do it if it turns on the eng light. I’m guessing that is what it means.
But t-bird, there are a huge number of things that can do this. It needs to be hooked up to a computer to have its “codes” read. The dealer must have done this, so call and ask them about the “OBD” codes they found on your car. Then post them up here.
Also provide some information about the situation - is the car running poorly? Does it happen only at certain times? What kinds of things (maintenance/repair) have been done on the car recently?
Some alarm dings. Is there any other light that comes on? Do you have the Owner’s Handbook which describes “warning chimes”?
Check the engine oil level.
