2001 saab 9-3 starting problem

My wife’s Saab intermittently will not start. This typically happens after a short trip. When turning the key, all battery functions are fine and there is a clicking sound under the hood (but no engine turnover). If the car sits for 10-30 mins it will start again.

This problem typically happens in spurts - two to three times a week or even twice in a day - and then she can go months without experiencing it.

It’s been suggested that the crankshaft position sensor might be the culprit - but the diagnostic run by the mechanic showed no history in the ‘black box’ of any error. I’ve also read that the neutral position switch could play a role.

We need help.
