I just purchase a used 2001 Audi A6 wagon with ~80,000 miles on it. Every so often i get a very strong smell of burning oil, or possibly rubber. the smell typiclly happens after running a bit then stopping. do you have any ideas what i should look for? My dealer has not niticed the smell.
Take a look at the accesory belt slipping and/or oil spots under the car where you park it. Don’t look for oil spots in public parking lots, you will always find them there, check this at home.
I have looked for oil spots and not seen them, but will look again. the slipping belt sounds intersting i will check that out. THANK YOU!
Cam covers and cam chain tensioners ( at back of heads )
These are common leak points and the oil smell is from the oil dripping on the exhaust .
