1999 Volkswagen Golf - Interference or not?

Timing belt snapped on my 2.0l golf. I thought it was the fuel pump as you do when your car won’t start. Replaced that and then the filter. I was working my way up the fuel system when I just happened to pull off the timing cover and saw that it was really loose.
I’ve been doing my research and it seems to be a greatly debated topic whether or not the 2.0 is interference or not. What should I do? Should I just throw a new belt on there and hope for the best? Any answer would be greatly appreciated.

The Gates belt catalog used to tell you if it is interference or not.Just looked Gates says it is.
