Another trick is to use a small worm clamp placed over the tangs of the spring clamp, and tighten the worm clamp to squeeze tangs together on the spring clamp.
Sometimes I use a tool as @Tester posted…sometimes a regular pliers, or a slip joint pliers.
But the one that @Tester showed works great at the hard to reach ones.
