1997 Jeep Wrangler (6 cyl) manual 5-speed

I have an annoying series of belt chirps during the first few seconds of acceleration in 1st gear and occasionally in 2nd. It occurs only during high torque loads. The serpentine belt is fresh and properly tensioned. Any thoughts?

If not the serpentine belt, maybe its the tires.

If you have an accessory component beginning to bind up it could do this under load. Try removing the belts and turning the varisous items by hand, as well as checking them for looseness.

Thanks for this advice. I think I’ve narrowed the problem to the power steering pump – it had just a slight amount of play in it. Have ordered a re-manned pump and have my fingers crossed. Thanks again, Rick Harter
