1997 Jeep Renegade turns over for a few seconds before starting

My Wrangler is a 1997 4.0 liter with only 45,000 miles. The car has always started immediately for the 21 years I’ve owned it. Now it seems to turnover for a few seconds before firing. Last time I changed the plugs was about 5 years ago. This only happens when the engine is cold. Before I take it to the shop I was trying to figure out the problem. Thanks.

The next time you go to start the engine, turn the ignition key on so the dash lights come on for two seconds, and turn the ignition off.

Repeat this a half dozen times and try starting the engine.

If the engine starts right up, it points to a problem with the anti drain-back valve on the fuel pump assembly.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll try it tomorrow after work and reply back.
