The clutch engages on the very top; barely depressing the petal.
First check the fluid in your clutch master cylinder.
The system might need to be ble, or you may need a new clutch.
I’m sure @Purebred meant that “it may need to be bled.”
The nursing home most likely overmedicated the poor guy again.

I don’t really know what’s wrong with your clutch, but I do know that your truck is really a Ford Ranger, with a Mazda name stuck on it, so any shop should be familiar with it.
On the other hand, my suspicion is that the disk is worn out. Does it slip yet?
