This has happened 2 times now. The car starts and is running fine. On both occasions the car was driven about 30 minutes and then parked for about 30-40 minutes. After the car has been parked (30-40 minutes) the car starts and will go 1 time for about 500 yards and teh 2nd time for about 2 miles, the car just stops. After that the car cannot be started. In both cases we waited one time 12 hours and the second time 5 hours, then the car started and could be driven.
There was about a 2 week period beteen both incidents. Both incidents happened on a warm day (above 80).
Also the car only gets used about 2 or 3 times per week to drive short city distances.
Does anyone have any idea as to what might be wrong?
Thank you
There are several things it could be, but a fuel pump is the most likely if it has the original pump in it.
15 years and 125k miles plus means it’s due.
Change the fuel FILTER and put a fuel pressure gage on it. Put the car in drive and take the rpm to 2,000. Watch the fuel pressure for a couple of minutes. It should stay within limits. You can determine if fuel supply is the problem for not starting if you spray a START FLUID, from the auto parts store, into the black plastic intake tube. If it starts, it’s a fuel problem. If not, maybe a spark problem.
