A mechanic told us that our power steering fluid is leaking and may cause a fire when the fluid hits the hot engine. He said we can fix the problem by replacing the fluid pump. Is power steering fluid flammable? What will happen if we do not fix the proglem?
I don’t know how good a mechanic he is; but, he could be right on both counts. If you don’t trust him, get a second opinion.
Most things will burn if you get them hot enough. Not being a chemist, I can say in my experience a hot engine block will not cause power steering fluid to burn. Now a hot exaust header pipe or cat. would sure make alot of smoke.Really you need to get the leak fixed.
