Starter does not turn on when key is turned. Sometimes it takes three or four times before the engine starts. sometimes it starts the first time. The key switch was replaced, which helped a little
If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, with the dash lights on, step on the brake pedal and shift the transmission into neutral and then try starting the engine.
If the engine starts, it points to a problem with the park/neutral safety switch.

Your starter is probably worned after 27 years.If yours is a Denso starter,replacing the 2 copper contacts inside the solonoid housing will make it work another 27 years.They sell them on EBAY for around $15.
