03 Taurus acceleration problem

My 2003 Taurus has 112k miles and has run like a champ since I got it new. However, recently I was on the highway, doing 70, when I accelerated to pass a truck. About 3 seconds into the pass, it started to vacillate between trying to go and trying to stop! I had to abandon the pass!

The rest of my drive home, anytime I “punched” the accelerator, the same thing… to the point I swear I could hear a clicking sound under the dash each time it started to decelerate. Even in town from a stop, if I punch it too hard, it starts to fail. What’s the deal? Fuel pump, computer failure? Thoughts?
