Zero To 50 In Just . . . Ah- (cough, cough) -hem . . . 28.9 Seconds!

Pretty much like any two stroke. Don’t fill up till it’s below 1/4 full and the ratio of gas you put in is “about” right for the pre-measured oil you add when filling. Otherwise, to top off, it’s all guess work and a reason you end up fouling plugs. Today’s technology would just have oil injection like Johnson/Evinrude by Bombardier(sp) and others do with their outboards. You fill a reservoir as you need making them as clean and efficient as 4 strokes…maybe for cars some day ? The 96 was fun to drive at speeds up to 50-60 mph. Poor mileage for a car that size but great for “dragging” the baseball field…my players loved beating on it when using it. Rugged little car overall except for motor longevity.

The lamest ones (plural) I’ve ever driven were the early VW Diesel Rabbits and that includes the ones that were new at the time. VW came out with an injector pump timing modification but that made very little differerence.
While never putting a stop watch to one of them I suppose an hour glass would have worked. Nail one to the floor and within 2 blocks one would be lucky to have hit 40 MPH. The speedo needle would barely have any detectible movement.

The slowest car I’ve ever personally owned was an old 36 Horse VW Bug even though I actually liked the car. Any kind of hill or headwind would just decimate what little power it had.

While better built, I imagine the 4 cylinder Mercedes diesels from the 60s-70s are also dog-slow. I passed on as it got on the freeway, 2 miles later it finally caught up, foot to the floor, apparently.
