Woman who had Hyundai stolen three times goes head up with insurance company

Robert, this is the best article you’ve ever posted. “Unknown bodily fluids” indeed. That part cracked me up.

At least the insurance company will fix the car. With the widespread discussions of insurance companies stopping insurance on Hyundais and Kias it’s good to see at least one is still working with them. The owner is in the Air Force. Maybe she has USAA.

2400 vehicles stoled in Memphis so far this year, as of yesterday. Less than 1000 stolen in the same period last year. Seems to be Hyundai’s are the most stolen, at least when the news interviews an owner, that is what he/she owned.

Wow. We should do like the Europeans and require it on every new vehicle.

Friend rear ended car at 30mph. They fixed it. 1 year later she parked on street and got hit from front and pushed into tree. Both ends. They fixed it. Ins co was nice.

Can’t imagine not totaled if hit at 30 mph. Hit at a lower speed in a 30 mph zone?

These are amateur thieves for the most part. So why don’t people take some additional measures to help thwart the casual thief looking for an easy theft? People used to tell me how easy it was to defeat the Club when I started using one because so many cars were being stolen from work parking lots. But these were opportunistic thefts used for crimes or joyrides. My Cadillac was never once broken into or stolen when several cars around it had been. I even got to the point of not even locking it, just placing it on the wheel. Why even try to steal a car with an additional, highly visible deterrent when there are less protected cars nearby?

Reminds me of this punchline:
“I don’t have to outrun the bear. I just have to outrun you.”

You can defeat the club in less than 30 seconds. I don’t see it being much of a deterrent.

Good thing you’re not the one running around stealing cars then. You do want me to give you more credit for brains than the average car thief, right?

It was an older car. Steel bumper. Steel grill. Zero plastic.
The car she hit was turning into parking lot so it was rolling.
Maybe 10 mph? She was doing at least 30
I saw car on boulevard against tree and said WTF?
That’s Debbie. She was a bad driver

The average car theft has access to youtube and a drill.

Disable Steering Wheel Lock device in 15 seconds

Maybe deter the joy rider. But not a car thief.

Just rig up a double shift lock on it, meaning add a hidden button somewhere were you have to not only depress the brake pedal but also push the button to get it out of gear…

I have seen some crazy things that you had to do to vehicles to get them to start with no alarms… One old vehicle was wired to were you had to push the washer pump button in the turn signal switch to start it… If you want someone to not be able to steal your vehicle you just have to get creative… I had a tuner kid that had a quick disconnect steering wheel and removed his steering wheel when ever not in the car… lol Hard to steal a vehicle you can’t steer, of course it no longer had an airbag… I’ve unplugged my distributer (pulled the plug apart but made it look like it was plugged in) before, removed the coil wire… Most thief’s are not going to take the time to diag your vehicle to steal it…

MY preferred theft device is to leave the keys in the ignition, but have it rigged to stall around 30 seconds after they start driving.

Now you have finally come around to what I said in the first place:

And as I also said, there were lots of people (who coincidentally didn’t own one) who said it will never work, they are too easy to defeat they claimed. But my experience says otherwise for the reasons I cited. Those naysaying people are exactly why my approach worked. Their cars appeared easier to steal than mine. If too many people use them, they lose their effectiveness. It’s a given that no deterrent will stop a sufficiently motivated and determined thief… but those are a small fraction of these thefts.

City is giving out steering wheel locks. You use saw and cut wheel. Seen a video how to do it.

Amateur car thieves are NOT the same as joyriders. At least not here in NH or MA.

Apparently not a problem in my area.
Last week the PD in Wash. DC started giving away steering wheel locks.
Just show up to a precinct house with proof of owning a Hyundai/Kia.
They sent out emails, announcement on TV news etc.
My Hyundai owning neighbor went the first day expecting a long line, but no, and they said only a couple people had come to get them.
I bought one soon after hearing about the “Kia boys” a couple years ago.

The Club is easy to defeat if you have a bolt cutter. How many amateur thieves carry bolt cutters around? Once car thieves start carrying a set of tools around in their base vehicles I think the qualify as professional thieves.
