Windshield wipers down in '92 Taurus SHO

My windshield wipers have been acting oddly when on intermittent for some time; they would go straight up on the windshield, then stop, and then finish their sweep when the switch next told them to move. Today, they stopped altogether. It sounds as though the switch is working properly and a relay is trying to trigger under the dashboard when you turn the switch, but they don’t move. Any idea how to fix this?

It sounds like the position switches in the wiper motor assembly have failed. You could dig into the assembly and try to patch it, but the normal solution is to replace the wiper motor assembly. (I’m not there, so I can’t rule out the wiring or the electronic wiper module, but most likely it is the motor assembly.)
