It was so funny to hear the guys talk about this! Back in the early 80’s, I actually did this on my 73 Chevy Impala station wagon! We were 15 miles from home and the wiper trans went. I took my boot laces off and tied them to the wiper blades, yanked to the left and right to make it on home. Now a days. rain x would easily get you through it!
A large rubber band on the passenger side and a string on the driver side worked great for me once.
