Our 94 Subruban has a wild left turn signal. It flashes double time. Is this an indication of something wrong?

Yup! Take a walk around the car while the turn signals are on, and you should find that a bulb is burned out. My guess is that your signals only flash “double-time” on one side of the car, and this is the side where a bulb has burned out.
Addendum: I just noticed that you did mention the left turn signal, so if you activate your left side turn signals, you should find that either the front left bulb or the left rear bulb is burned out.
