Widening highways makes traffic worse

I repeat. No not really.

I’m not a traffic engineer. My observations, build a new road, businesses build up around the new road.
Florida has more than tripled its population in my lifetime. Factors, air conditioning, the space program, the mouse in Orlando, and no state income tax. With air conditioning, people from “up north” could retire in Florida. I-95 and I-4 reflex the growth. Nationwide, the population , during my lifetime has doubled, and the traffic reflects that growth.

I was an Elvis fan as a teenager, read an article in the mid 60s where he said the roads are so crowded he doesn’t really enjoy driving anymore.

Sorry… Definitely agreeing with your criticism. You are 100% correct.

Sorry to hear that you all believe that faster is better. Typical Americans… :slightly_frowning_face:

I shall continue driving within the law:

Limit: 55mph, min 40, me: 50-52.

Limit: 65mph, min 40, me: 60.

Always in outermost(RH) lane.

And I’ve never gotten cherry-topped for conducting myself as such.

Just being in the right lane doesn’t mean you aren’t impeding traffic, on a four lane, you are affecting 50% of the lane capacity. On a six lane you are affecting 33% of the available capacity. As a test, take a drive on I 70 in Indiana where trucks are restricted to 65. It’s a total mess.

It’s a “total mess” because of drivers (likely non-truckers) who insist on going 10+mph over whatever the main speed limit is along that stretch.

Don’t like us? Go some where else! PLEASE !

Then the NJSP are complicit in the speeding culture!

I can understand five mph over, in consideration of speedo error, but PSL+10mph?

(Posted Speed Limit)

Instead of reacting that way, why not at least be partially open to ideas different than your own.

Even try driving as I have explained in previous comments. If law enforcement hasn’t reacted, than apparently what I’m doing is alright.

You could come to NJ and perform a Citizen’s Arrest of the State Troopers who offend you! Please let us know how that goes.

Nice try. That’s NOT what I said, and you know it. Let me know when you want to act like an adult.

No the other cars drive the 70 speed limit but the truck are like you and drive 65. The right lane is useless because of this.

There might be a speed governor installed by the trucking company.

No, it’s that some states have a lower speed limit for semis. Texas got rid of that in 2011, because the difference in speed was causing congestion and accidents.

We don’t have lower speed limits for semis around here (Never even heard of that), but we do have lane restrictions. Highway with more than 2 lanes in one direction - Semis are not allowed in the far-left lanes. NY - Semi’s and buses are not allowed in far-left lane.

Awwwww, because poor baby can’t pass in the RH lane?

My sympathies!

I do it all the time!
When there are snails clogging-up the center and left lanes, I am almost always able to blast past them on the right.

And, before you tell me that I am breaking the law, I can assure you that passing on the right on multi-lane roads is legal in NJ, and in many other states.

The right lane is useful for those moving along swiftly at 65 mph.

Now I know how to get somewhere in no time at all - if 10 under the speed limit is faster, then going 0 mph must be fastest!

Was that comment directed to me? It seems that most truck fleets use speed limiters. The article is dated 2022 but most of the other articles I see talk about impending federal regulations requiring speed limiters.
