His last car, prior to the Presidency, was a Chrysler 300, and he reportedly really liked driving it.
Looks like a missing decimal point. Itâs 0.28 hp per cu in.
It is neat to see how far engine technology has advanced in the last 50 years, with todayâs passenger cars averaging 1.5 to 2.0 hp per cubic inch.
this new junk with its 0w20 oil and 0w7 oil is ruining the country at this point.
Itâs not just The US!
The people suffering from warfare in Ukraine, The Middle East, and Africa are all in agreement that those low viscosity oils are the source of their problems.
The children who go to bed hungry at night also curse the advent of those oils. Even the folks who have been devastated by wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes shake their fists at the sky and scream that they wouldnât have suffered, if not for 0w20 oil and 0w7 oil.
Pope Leo, The Dalai Lama, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Patriarch of Constantinople, and Grand Imam of al-Azhar all agree on one thing, namely that we need to go back to The Good Old Days of âstraightâ 30-weight oil in order to solve all of the issues that the world is confronted with.

I can show you a dozens of Toyotaâs with well over 300k miles running exclusively on 0w-20 oil.
The Granada also was available with 4 wheel disc brakes
I can find no option listed for that, why do you say that?
And from the era when a Taurus beat the Accord head to head:
1992 Chevy Lumina vs Ford Taurus vs Honda Accord vs Toyota Camry
They could not say enough good things at the Taurusâ introduction:
Tested: 1986 Ford Taurus LX Changes the Shape of Sedans Forever
How do you know if Mr. Obama didnât drive a Granada back in his college or law school days?
^^^^This!^^^^
President Obamas first car was a Ford Granada, he looks back fondly on it. He drove up until he ran for President. I believe his last car was a Chrysler 300.
I can find no option listed for that, why do you say that?
Straight from the 1977 Ford Granada Brouchure. I absolutely love these cars. Oh what I would do if they sold then new today. I wouldnât get the 4 wheel discâs of course, not necessary, but the disc brakes fans on here will have a hard time admitting that the Granada had such a âgreatâ option.
Truth is the Granada was a fine automobile!

0W20 is a first world problem, I understand. Its causing alot of strife for people though, look at the 5.3l and 6.2l GM engines blowing up. And in the case of the 6.2l what did GM IMMEDIATELY do? Change the oil spec to a thicker oil!
You were the one who statedâŠ
0w20 oil and 0w7 oil is ruining the country at this point.
So, perhaps you were being a bit⊠hyperbolic?
President Obamas first car was a Ford Granada, he looks back fondly on it.
He had fond memories of his first car, who doesnât? But this is what he thought of the Granada:
âThe car I learned to drive on was my grandfatherâs Ford Granada,â Barack told Indianapolis radio station WFBQ. âIt may be the worst car that Detroit ever built⊠This thing was a tin can. [Detroit was] trying to compete with the Japanese. They wanted to keep the cars big, so they made them out of tin foil⊠You basically couldnât go over 80 (miles per hour) without the thing getting out of control.â
Yep, he thought it was a GREAT car!
The problem âback in the dayâ wasnât thin sheet metal.
Explain that to Barack, he made the misguided comment about vehicle construction.
BTW, some vehicles had galvanized rocker panels, didnât rust as quickly but the paint peeled after a few years.
If 0w20 is so deadly for engines, why is my momâs 2014 Honda Civic running like a champ?![]()
So, perhaps you were being a bit⊠hyperbolic?
Well in a way it is. Just ask the people that have had vehicles that they are still paying on loose an engine because of the thin oil, they might think its ruining the country we as know it as well as other things we will not get into here.
I never had respect for his opinion of the automotive industry, he thought American cars were too thin, did he ever drive a 1976 Datsun?
I think his comment was off the cuff. I dont believe he had deep knowledge of automotive design and manufacturing, but he drove and he knew a good car when he seen it, hence why he looked back fondly on his Granada.
If 0w20 is so deadly for engines, why is my momâs 2014 Honda Civic running like a champ?
How many miles DB? Plenty of low mileage GM engines blowing up and the ones that havenât now require a thicker oil. GM knows thats the real issue.
but he drove and he knew a good car when he seen it, hence why he looked back fondly on his Granada.
Why are you being a troll? He obviously thought the Granada was a bad car, âthe worst car that Detroit ever built â.
If 0w20 is so deadly for engines, why is my momâs 2014 Honda Civic running like a champ?
How often does she free-rev the engine till the cooling fan roars and then neutral-drops it to do a peel-out smoke show in a parking lot? ![]()
I bought a Taurus for my wife based on the reviews in the late 80s and my test drives. We liked it a lot. The only problem we had with it was the AC compressor, and that was replaced early under warranty. We kept it for about 8 years until our three children were big enough to get in each otherâs way in the back seat. Then we bought a minivan. For a midsize sedan, handling we excellent for the time.

I was curious and did a Google Gemini search for which vehicles recommend 0W-20 motor oil.
Hereâs what it returned with:
Here are some of the major vehicle brands that commonly recommend or even require 0W-20 motor oil:
Asian Brands (Very Common):
- Toyota: A huge proponent of 0W-20, especially for its modern gasoline engines and hybrids.
- Honda / Acura: Widely recommends 0W-20 for most of its recent models.
- Nissan / Infiniti: Many current models specify 0W-20.
- Subaru: Often recommends 0W-20, particularly for its horizontally opposed (boxer) engines.
- Mazda: Many Skyactiv engines use 0W-20.
- Hyundai / Kia: Increasingly specifies 0W-20 for a wide range of gasoline engines.
- Mitsubishi: Newer models often use 0W-20.
- Lexus: Toyotaâs luxury brand heavily uses 0W-20.
North American Brands (Increasingly Common):
- Ford / Lincoln: Many EcoBoost engines and other modern Ford/Lincoln vehicles require 0W-20.
- General Motors (Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Buick): Has widely adopted 0W-20 for many of its recent gasoline engines.
- Chrysler / Dodge / Ram / Jeep: Increasingly specifies 0W-20 for various engines, including some versions of the Pentastar V6 and others.
European Brands (Some Models, but less universally than Asian/NA):
- While 0W-20 is becoming more common, European brands often also recommend 5W-30, 0W-30, or other specific low-viscosity oils that meet their demanding proprietary specifications (e.g., VW 508 00/509 00, BMW LL-17FE+, Mercedes-Benz MB 229.71).
- Volkswagen / Audi / Porsche: Specific modern engines (e.g., some 2.0L TSI, 3.0L TFSI) often require 0W-20 that meets specific VW standards (like VW 508 00/509 00).
- BMW: Many newer engines, especially those designed for increased fuel efficiency, specify 0W-20 (e.g., meeting BMW LL-17FE+).
- Mercedes-Benz: Certain engines may use 0W-20, typically requiring specific MB approvals (e.g., MB 229.71).
- Volvo: Many of their modern Drive-E engines specify 0W-20.
Funny, sure looks like it is more of a LS engine based displacement on demand or whatever thing, than a GM thing, much less a 0W20 thingâŠ
