I have a 2003 Volvo S60, non-turbo with 67,000 miles. After the car has sufficiently warmed up, there is a faint but noticeable rhythmic knocking sound coming from the front when turning left at low speeds. As soon as the wheels are straight, the noise goes away. Any ideas?
I would look at the CV joint.
And I would 2nd that.
I’ll 3rd thst.
This is a classic CV joint symptom.
And an easy way to check it is to turn the wheels all the way to the left, and look at the inside of the wheel. Chances are if you’re already at the knocking stage, it’s covered in thick grease.
There are no cracks in the boots and no grease seen. Could it be loose tie rods or bad struts?
maybe, but it could still be a bad joint - - they can go bad without the boot tearing. It’s just that usually the boot tears before they have a chance to go bad on their own.
